CBS unveiled the first official look of Magnum P.I. revival, and it is not really like what we saw in the original Tom Selleck version of the series.
This picture shows Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez), who takes over the role from Selleck, and also the signature red Ferrari of Magnum. However, the Hawaiian shirts, the legendary mustache, etc. are missing which hints at this being a more contemporary, grounded and stylish version of the detective series.
Back when a Magnum P.I. revival was first contemplated on ABC; it was set to be an extension of the original 80s series featuring Magnum’s daughter, who would take over from the point where her father left. But, CBS has now apparently opted for a proper reboot, featuring Jay Hernandez as Thomas Magnum, Zachary Knighton as Rick Wright, Stephen Hill as TC Calvin and Perdita Weeks as Juliet Higgins.
We don’t yet know whether Hernandez will get a mustache during the first season, but, if he aims to emulate Selleck, then he will have to do it at some point.
As of now, there is no release date listed for Magnum P.I. reboot, but, we expect it to land sometime in the fall.
