Avengers: Infinity War Goes Past $2 Billion Landmark On Global Box Office

After taking into account Monday’s receipts, the mega movie from Marvel has ultimately gone past the $2 billion total at the global box office. This makes the movie the biggest grosser ever from MCU and the 4th film ever to earn over $2 billion. The second-best MCU film is The Avengers which earned $1.51 billion in 2012.

The other films which have gone past the landmark are Avatar, which is the global leader with a mind-boggling $2.78 billion total. In fact, it is apparent that there is unlikely to be any film that can go beyond the visual extravaganza created by James Cameron until inflation raises the ticket prices to the level where it no longer remains a novel achievement. At the second place is Titanic with $2.18 billion and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $2.06 billion. Avengers: Infinity War recently got a three-month extension in China, and that’s why it is quite likely that it will overtake The Force Awakens before it goes out of theaters.

If we look at the divided totals, Avengers: Infinity War has earned $656.1 million of its total at home. This includes a record-shattering $257.6 million opening weekend. Internationally, the film earned a magnificent $1.34 billion. There are only two films which have earned more than that abroad, and they are both James Cameron movies: Titanic (including its 2012 rerun) with $1.52 billion and Avatar with a  mind-boggling $2.07 billion internationally. It must be noted that Avengers: Infinity War has earned more overseas than Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($1.33 billion) earned throughout its run at box office.

2018 has been an insanely good year for Marvel Studios until now. They not only have Avengers: Infinity War to brag about, but, earlier in the year, Black Panther shattered all expectations. The film made by Ryan Coogler earned over $1.34 billion, which makes it by far the highest-grossing solo film ever from MCU. These two films are also so far the biggest hits of this year worldwide and at third place is Deadpool 2 with $655.7 million. It seems as if Marvel has got hold of a secret formula of success. They also have the much awaited Ant-Man and The Wasp coming up next month.

It is not going to be easy for any franchise, not even Marvel, to repeat the kind of success Avengers: Infinity War achieved. It was almost a full decade of building up to this mega event film, and they have kept the faith of fans from all parts of the world. In fact, we don’t think that any movie, even Avengers 4 will top this. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given no indications of slowing down, it still might be many years before we see another movie go beyond Avengers: Infinity War at the box office.
