‘Deadpool 2’ Just Name Dropped A Very Famous X-Men Villain. Here’s How It Happened

One huge villain from the X-Men comics is yet to make his big screen debut, but this does not mean that it is not currently in under work.

After having been first teased in one of the post-credits scene of the movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, Mister Sinister had been referred to in the latest outing, Deadpool 2.

Spoilers for Deadpool 2 ahead…

We can expect that any movie which features Deadpool to be filled with references and a whole lot of easter eggs that are not actually limited to 20th Century Fox as such. Deadpool 2 had referenced Avengers: Infinity War and DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The movie was extremely faithful to the mythos of the X-Men and added Juggernaut who had referred to Professor X to be his brother.

In this movie, Russell Collins grows up and becomes a criminal who kills Cable’s entire family and this prompted Cable to travel back in time and kill the boy.

In the current era, Russell lashes out at all the people who had tormented him in the Essex House for Mutant Rehabilitation.

Essex, one would know is a reference to Mister Sinister, whose alter ego is Nathaniel Essex. This would be the second time that Essex is name dropped, as the Essex Corporation had once made a short appearance on a briefcase in X-Men: Apocalypse post-credits scene.

It had been assumed by all the fans that this will set up Logan, though we never saw much exploration of the character since.

Now, we have a few theories that Jessica Chastain is all set to take up the role of a female version of this villain in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

This is just a short reference in the Deadpool 2 movie but one cannot help but wonder if Fox really does have plans for this X-Men villain.

Deadpool 2 is in theaters now.
