Karate Kid Is Coming Out Of Retirement In Cobra Kai

The YouTube Red’s Cobra Kai’s latest trailer puts focus on Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio). The previous trailer had shown the character of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), reopening the Cobra Kai and starting work on training a newly assembled team never to display “mercy.” Lawrence is having a bad time, and he mentors a bullied high school student, just the way Mr. Miyagi and Daniel-San did in the original Karate Kid film. Daniel LaRusso is, however, having all the good things until his peaceful life is affected by the comeback of Cobra Kai dojo.

The previous Cobra Kai trailer displayed a reference to the iconic wax on/wax off scene from the Karate Kid and the latest trailer shows the skeleton costumes and a nervous expression from Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), who appears to have been permanently scarred after the brutal thrashing from the Cobra Kai dojo in the original film. In another scene, LaRusso can be seen grumbling to his wife abut the comeback of the dojo as they sip wine. The brief visual ends with LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence coming face to face, once again establishing their rivalry.

Apart from Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, the other members of the cast include Courtney Henggeler as Amanda, wife and business partner of Daniel LaRusso. She happens to be the bond which keeps, “the LaRusso household and dealership running, and a calming force in Daniel’s life.” Mary Mouser is playing Samantha LaRusso. Miguel Diaz is played by Xolo Mariduena, and it is a character who gets bullied at his new school and eventually is mentored by Johnny Lawrence. Tanner Buchanan essays the role of Johnny’s smart son Robby Keene. Robby is determined to prove that he is not like his father, but, everything points towards him being identical to him. Ed Asner plays Sid Weinberg, Johnny’s strong stepfather who wants nothing to do with him.

The two new trailers of Cobra Kai have started highlighting the comedy part of the series. This won’t be like the others of what we saw in the Karate Kid franchise, and that’s a welcome change. Ralph Macchio was unwilling to make a comeback over the years, but, the revised treatment has enticed both Macchio and William Zabka to be delighted about coming on board the new series, and it has reignited their rivalry after more than three decades.

Cobra Kai will premiere on YouTube Red with a ten episodes season later this year. At present, no specific date has been announced by YouTube, but, the announcement is not far off either. The new series looks fantastic and is expected to be popular among Karate Kid fans globally. You can have a look at both the trailers below and check out where Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso are after all these years and having families, thanks to the Cobra Kai YouTube channel.
