During her childhood, Newell used to play football for various teams, in her area and once she even participated in the trials for Cardiff City as well as the Welsh national team. She was 13 when a knee injury eventually forced her out of the Wales Under-16 team.

Upon finally turning 16, she hung up her football shoes and decided to take a long break from all sports, mentioning her knee injury and an overall lack of love for the sport as the reasons. Just after she quit football, she came across a professional wrestling school in Port Talbot and started training under Dave Stewart and “Wild Boar” Mike Hitchman.

She mentioned that the motivation given by her late grandfather to pursue a professional wrestling career was her main inspiration. Other than football, she also played netball and tag rugby.

Despite having played football for most of her youth, Newell grew up as a professional wrestling fan after being familiarized with the sport at the age of five and she calls Molly Holly as her favourite female wrestler and a dream opponent. Newell made her debut for Attack! Pro Wrestling in July 2014, and competed thrice on the same show.

First she defeated Lana Austin and later that evening she teamed up with Austin to beat Mark Andrews and Pete Dunne to win the Attack! 24/7 Championship for the second time in her career. However, Newell and Austin lost the championship to Mike Bird in a handicap match later that night.

She is presently signed with WWE and features in their developmental territory NXT under the ring name of Tegan Nox. Newell earlier used to wrestle on the British independent circuit under the ring name of Nixon Newell, and was famous for promotions like Attack! Pro Wrestling, Progress Wrestling and Fight Club: Pro.
