Avengers: Infinity War has given the audiences a number of questions, but, luckily the movie’s directors, Joe and Anthony Russo are providing the answers. The latest MCU blockbuster has witnessed a never before extent of communication between the directors and their viewers, and Marvel is well-versed with how to use that to make sure that their movies keep getting publicity.

With such a large number of characters to feature and a narrative so intricate, it wasn’t surprising to see the fans come up with a number of questions. The Russos also appear to be having a great time dealing with fan questions and at times, even in providing hints. They don’t share anything related to Avengers 4, but, that hasn’t stopped us from getting some incredible insights into Avengers: Infinity War. Whether it is the movie’s trailers or Groot’s last dialogue, the directors have handled all the questions and many more. With each question that was answered, another layer was added to the movie and giving an opening to whole new theme concepts.

WHY WERE THE TRAILERS SO DIFFERENT TO THE FINAL FILM?

The Russos believe that the trailers are not the same as the movie. “You have to be very smart about how you cast a trailer,” Joe Russo explained, “’cause an audience can watch a trailer and basically tell you what’s gonna happen in the film.”

There were some scenes specifically shot for the trailers and dialogues also varied. “Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe,”Thanos said in one trailer, “but this does put a smile on my face.”

WHY DIDN’T WE SEE THANOS ACQUIRE THE POWER STONE?

Avengers: Infinity War had a lot of things to deal with and that included some “tell, not show” moments such as Thanos acquiring the Power Stone. Joe Russo explained that they felt it would be “one too many” and it was “easy to deal with it off screen.”

WHY DID WE SEE SO LITTLE OF THE BLACK ORDER?

Joe Russo said that the movie already had too many characters,  “I think people have been waiting ten years to have the Marvel heroes together in a 2 and half hour film. So If I started to go into the history of them- that’s a whole other movie altogether.” In his opinion “Thanos is the true bad guy of the movie,” he added, “you don’t want the sub-villains overshadowing the super-villain.”

WHY WASN’T HAWKEYE IN THE FILM?

Regarding Hawkeye’s absence from the movie, Joe Russo said that they had “a very specific story with him that… is a long play, not a short play. Audiences just need to be patient.”

WHY WASN’T ADAM WARLOCK IN INFINITY WAR?

Regarding Adam Warlock, this is what the director had to say.  “I have no interest as a director in telling a story that’s already been told or in seeing one that’s already been told. If I know all the events story as they’re going to happen then what’s the point of going to the film?”

HOW DOES INFINITY WAR FIT WITH AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON?

The Russos answered this question and said that the scene is based on Nidavellir. “I think that it would be connected to Eitri,” he explained. “I think that clearly, he is the one who forged the gauntlet and Thanos had the gauntlet at that point in time. It’s been a while since any of the Asgardians have interacted with Eitri and his people.”

WHY DIDN’T THE HULK TURN UP IN THE BATTLE OF WAKANDA?

One thing that baffled a lot of fans was the Hulk not participating in the Battle of Wakanda, despite being there in the trailer. “We have to be careful with the character of Banner,” Joe Russo explained. “Because if every time he’s in trouble Hulk saves him, Hulk becomes the hero and he becomes whiny. We wanted to force Banner to be the hero.”

“I think people have interpreted it as Hulk’s scared. I mean, certainly, that’s not a — I don’t know that the Hulk is ever… he’s had his ass kicked before, and he loves a good fight. But I think that it’s really reflective of the journey from Ragnarok. Is that these two characters are constantly in conflict with each other over control. And I think that if the Hulk were to say why it’d be [that] Banner only wants Hulk for fighting. I think he’s had enough of saving Banner’s ass.”

WHY WASN’T THE REUNION BETWEEN STEVE ROGERS AND BUCKY AN EMOTIONAL ONE?

“I think [Cap’s] made his way to Wakanda a couple of times,” Joe Russo said, “and that is how we directed that scene, that was not the first time that they were seeing each other since he woke up.”

WHAT HAPPENED TO BLACK WIDOW AND BRUCE BANNER?

During an interview with Happy Sad Confused, they said a great deal of time had passed between them. “There’s a sort of unspoken truth that there’s no need for a spoken resolution,” Joe Russo explained.

WHAT HAPPENED TO SCARLET WITCH’S ACCENT?

Joe Russo had a good explanation for this “We intentionally tried to strip that accent away for a couple of reasons,” he said.

One is that you’ll notice at the beginning of Civil War, Black Widow is training her how to be a spy. Two, she has now been on the run, and one of the most distinguishing characteristics she has is her accent. So if you’re going to try to disguise yourself and not be caught, you’re going to try to limit those trigger warnings that would make it easy for someone to identify you which would be inclusive of her accent.”

WHY DIDN’T THOR KILL THANOS?

This, according to Joe Russo, was due to Thor’s compassionate nature. “[Thor] wanted to tell Thanos that he got his revenge,” he observed. “These are choices that characters who are feeling immense pain make and hopefully, the audience can learn to empathize with those characters because they can grow through stories.”

“It gives us rich territory to explore with those characters,” Anthony Russo told Happy Sad Confused.

WHAT HAPPENED TO VALKYRIE, KORG, AND MIEK?

Joe Russo said “Prior to that scene, escape ships were deployed for Asgardians,” he explained. “Including Valkyrie.” However, he chose not to reveal the fate of Korg and Miek.

A MAJOR CHANGE IN STAR-LORD’S ARC

According to the movie’s writer Stephen McFeely, the story of Star-Lord was altered as per the inputs of James Gunn and Chris Pratt. “The more I think about it, the better it is that it got changed,”McFeely said.

WHY DID THE RUSSOS BRING BACK THE RED SKULL?

“Somebody had to be the gatekeeper to the Soul Stone,” Joe Russo told Uproxx, “and somebody had to distribute the rules to Thanos and Gamora.”

“Somebody who has a history with the stones may seem like they have a little more authority in terms of their experience,” Anthony Russo added, “especially a tragic experience.”

WAS THAT THE SOUL WORLD?

Joe Russo said that using all six Infinity Stones caused Thanos to have “an out of body experience,” in other words, a vision of the Soul world.

HOW DID THE RUSSOS CHOOSE WHO LIVED AND WHO DIED?

“All of our choices are based on story,” Anthony explained. “It’s based upon the road that these characters have traveled, in not only this movie but throughout the entire entity up to this point because, again, these movies are the culmination. So all we can say is that they are very focused story choices.”

WHY WAS BLACK PANTHER’S DEATH SO UNDERWHELMING?

“Remember,”McFeely told BuzzFeed, “when we’re writing [Infinity War], and even shooting, there is no Black Panther movie. We don’t know it’s going to be so good, so effective, so resonant.” Since Black Panther released less than three months before Avengers: Infinity War, its success shot the hero to prominence, but, they had no chance to depict that in Avengers: Infinity War.

WHAT WERE GROOT’S LAST WORDS?

“Dad,” Gunn said.
